The externship program is a collaboration with Texas employers and Texas Independent School Districts to provide middle and high school educators’ professional development opportunity to connect the classroom to the workplace. Educators will spend time in a workplace to learn through direct experiences about trends, skill requirements and opportunities in industries related to their content area to bring relevance to student learning.

What is an externship?
An externship is a professional development opportunity connecting the classroom to the workplace. Through direct experience at a job site, the teacher learns about trends, skills, and opportunities in industries related to their content area to bring relevance to student learning.
What is the purpose of an externship?
The purpose is to engage educators in activities in business and industry to learn how classroom content and learning strategies apply in the workplace. Educators improve their instructional practices by incorporating employment skills that meet current industry standards.
What is in it for you?

- Increased teacher awareness of industry / workforce needs to build a future workforce;

What is required of employers who participate?
Host a teacher, counselor or school administrator at your company for 3 - 5 consecutive days during the summer months (June - August) 2018.
