Self Sufficiency Fund

TWC’s Self Sufficiency Fund is a training grant of up to $500,000 for training projects to help individuals obtain industry-recognized credentials. The program focuses on training for adult recipients of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP), individuals at risk of being on public assistance, low-income parents, and youth up to the age of 24 who are part of a low-income family. Grant recipients are community-based organizations 501 (c)(3) and public community or technical colleges. Lone Star Workforce of the Future Fund

The Lone Star Workforce of the Future Fund (LSWF) is a program to increase the supply of qualified workers for entry-level to mid-level jobs in high demand occupations. Public community or technical colleges, or nonprofit organizations are eligible for funds to support workforce training programs for entry to mid-level jobs in high demand occupations. Grants may be up to $250,000 and 40% of project funding must come from a source other than the state government. At least 50% of program participants must be placed into high demand occupations that earn a self-sufficient wage.  Lone Star Workforce of the Future Fund - Texas Workforce Commission

Skills Development Fund

The Skills Development Fund is for businesses who want to train new workers or upgrade the skills of existing workers. Public community colleges, technical colleges, workforce boards, or Texas A&M Extension Services (TEEX) may apply. The goal of the program is to upgrade the skill levels and wages of the Texas workforce. Applicants include public community and technical colleges, community-based organizations in partnership with a community or technical college or TEEX. Businesses (in partnership with an eligible applicant) can receive up to $500,000 to meet their customized training needs. The amount can be more for a consortium. The average per-trainee cost is $2,000, and the trainees must be full-time, paid employees. TWC accepts project proposal submissions throughout the year. Each grant typically lasts 12 months. Jobs & Education for Texans (JET) Grant Program

The JET program provides grants to buy and install equipment for career and technical education (CTE) courses. These courses must lead to a license, certificate or post-secondary degree in a high-demand occupation. The JET Advisory Board meets every quarter to review received applications. Eligible grantees include: Public junior, state or technical colleges; Texas Independent School Districts (ISDs) in partnership with a public junior, state, or technical college; Open-enrollment charter schools in partnership with a public junior, state, or technical college; Windham School District. Texas Talent Connection Grant

This grant program seeks applications that support innovation in workforce development and that address the primary focus of this fund, which is to support exemplary workforce training projects that lead to job placement, increased wages, and job retention; deliver workforce services in more efficient and innovative ways; and provide services to workforce populations with special needs. Eligible partnerships include various combinations of local workforce boards, employers or employer organizations, institutions of higher education, faith-based organizations, local school districts, and not-for-profit community-based organizations. Applicants may apply for funding for 12 months only and must reapply each year for additional funding consideration.
