Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) Assistance

Effective September 1, 2016 DARS integrated with the Texas Workforce Commission and services are available at some of the Workforce Centers. For more information on the DARS transition, check out the DARS Transition Booklet.

Unemployment Benefit Services

Unemployment benefits are part of an employer-paid program that provides temporary, partial income replacement to qualified individuals who are unemployed through no fault of their own. You should apply for benefits as soon as you become unemployed. Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC)

The Earned Income Tax Credit, EITC or EIC, is a benefit for working people with low to moderate income. To qualify, you must meet certain requirements and file a tax return, even if you do not owe any tax or are not required to file. EITC reduces the amount of tax you owe and may give you a refund. Tiffany came to Workforce Solutions in Stephenville as a participant in the Choices Program and Subsidized Employment provided her with an opportunity to learn new work skills and pay her bills. She received child care and transportation assistance while employed. Upon completion of her work experience, Tiffany was able to find a full-time job. She is no longer recieving subsidized benefits and is well on the road to self-sufficiency.  (March 2016)
