Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) and Texas Workforce Solutions, in conjunction with Tri-Agency Initiative partners, Governor's Office of Economic Development & Tourism and industry associations, are raising awareness about careers in our state’s in-demand industries through the statewide “Careers in Texas Industries Week” events. These career exploration events were held the week of September 25-30, 2017, to encourage students to explore careers in growing Texas Industry Clusters and help students, parents and educators understand in-demand industries through networking with industry professionals and internship opportunities.

Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas partnered with Navarro College in Waxahachie, Texas to host iWork: Youth Career Exploration Event on Friday, September 29th Friday, September 29, 2017. This event generated over 300+ students from Ellis, Navarro, Kaufman, Johnson, Hood, and Somervell counties. Having schools representatives attend iWork with their students gave them the opportunity to help them discover career and training opportunities in exciting in-demand occupations. 18 local business partners attended the event to provide hands-on demonstrations of tools used in their industry along with 9 community resource partners to assist students on their pathway to success. Four distinct breakout workshops were available for students to attend to learn more about: Career Pathways, How to Represent Themselves to an Employer, and The Power of Social Media.
