Summer Earn & Learn Program

Creating pathways to employment for students with disabilities.

Youth

The Summer Earn & Learn program provides students with disabilities ages 14-22 with work readiness training and paid work experience. Summer Earn & Learn is a statewide strategy that includes employability skills training and paid work experience for students with disabilities.

Employer Partnership Opportunity

Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas partnered with Texas Workforce Commission-Vocational Rehabilitation Services to place 199 students who successfully completed five weeks of paid work experience. A total of 117 local employers participated in the program, and 21 students were offered continued full-time employment with various employers throughout the board area.

  • Candidates are observant, interested and eager to work
  • Reasonable accommodations required by the student are provided
  • Participating employers will receive an orientation prior to placement

Student Participation

To date, more than 5,000 students statewide (769 within the WSNCT service area) have participated in Summer Earn & Learn and worked in positions as design graphics assistants, customer service representatives, peer counselors and others.

To participate in the 2024 Summer Earn & Learn Program, eligible students include those with an individualized Education Plan or a 504 Plan. Student must be 14-22 years of age and must be less than 22 years of age as of September 1, 2023.
